A man loses his life in a police station another man begins to lose his sight and meditates on the meaning of light. When Jason Mcpherson died after being taken to Notting Hill Police Station the Independent Police Complaint Commission (IPCC) begin an internal investigation into what happened. Jason’s family are shocked at his death but this turns to anger when the IPCC decide that no police officers are responsible. Using exclusive police camera footage and access to an IPCC Commissioner this blow-by-blow account lays bare the impact of a death in police custody. This harrowing, inspiring and radical film combines moving testimonies, poetry and a political analysis of state violence. Dark and disturbing, ‘Po Po’ questions whether the IPCC is fit for purpose and asks if they are complicit in the lack of successful prosecutions of police officers for deaths in their custody. In the end, resistance is the light.
