Kush Cinema is a unique and pioneering new VOD platform in the UK and our one of our aims is to support independent filmmakers / content creators and provide new opportunities for them to distribute content across the globe to new untapped audiences with very fair and supportive revenue share deals; importantly enabling content creators to additionally monetize and make a living from their creative content.

We are looking for feature films, short films (not on Youtube), animation, theatre plays and web series. We are also looking to work with content creators to create branded shows that we can bring to new global audiences and monetize.

We are generally looking for films with high production values and of mainly a positive narrative (we will tend to shy away from overly violent, grimy films that show black life in a negative manner but films with redeeming moral themes may be considered).

We will look at a wide range of content that will be especially attractive to a predominately BME (Black, Minority, Ethnic) audience. Films must have at least a minimum 50% black cast/crew and we will place an emphasis on selecting positive black cultural stories (fiction and non fiction); even so we welcome content from all content creators regardless of ethnicity.

Due to the expected high volumes of content submitted we will not be able to get back to everyone and will only contact those with content that we are interested in. Sorry but we will not be accepting scripts, treatments or pilots through this submission process but is willing to have a brief discussion via phone on projects that may be suitable for potential partnership development for distribution on Kush Cinema.

Submission Guidelines

We are generally looking for films that have had a theatrical release and films (inc shorts) that have been official film selections at festivals (excluding web series).

Please provide all information of any theatrical release and festivals screenings when submitting your content

We are also looking to support known and aspiring talented independent filmmakers with a minimum package of 3 short films that presently are not on Youtube and preferably exclusive for our ‘Short Film Showcase’ section which will highlight new, established and talented filmmakers and offer a package of their short films to customers for one inclusive purchase price, we will also look at a one-off special online lead screening event which will include a recorded Zoom Q&A in a complete event setting.

Genre: we are looking for all types of genre including: drama, documentary, action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, horror, afro-futurism & we are also especially seeking titles with Justice, Socioeconomic, Civilisation, The Planet, Human/Personal Development themes.

Please submit your content via:

  1. A private screener link (preferably with a secure password) We accept Vimeo, FilmFreeway and we will also accept secure Dropbox and GoogleDrive links.

  2. Your submission must be sent as one package with the screener link and you must include:

Synopsis (+ credits, year made, length, BBFC or US classification)

Trailer link

  1. Send details of any accolades received (festival official selections / awards, positive film reviews, press etc)

  2. Series / Web series let us know how many episodes/seasons are available? (also please send us at least 3 episodes of that series for viewing)

  3. Short films must be a minimum of 5 mins in length to be considered (short films over 12 mins long is our preference).

  4. Once content is reviewed and accepted we will prefer media files in a mpg4 file format.
